Autumn in New Hampshire’s Crawford Notch

BACKGROUND:

By far, autumn is my absolute favorite season of the year.  Once this lovely season inevitably comes to an end, then I once again begin to eagerly await its return as I ride the Earth’s orbit around the sun toward the next autumn season.

Colorful autumn foliage is abundant throughout the New England region.  And, one of my favorite spots to experience the autumn colors is in the Crawford Notch area, located in my home State of New Hampshire.

My autumn travels within Crawford Notch include a mixture of the usual spots visited by many “leaf-peeping” folks, as well as a few unconventional spots that require a bit of bushwhacking.

Shown below are a few of my photos taken in the Crawford Notch area during the 2017 autumn season.

PHOTOS:

This vista is looking northward up the Crawford Notch with Mt. Willard at LEFT, and a portion of Mt. Webster at RIGHT.  Photo was taken by following a very faint path to a huge sloping slab of rock frequented ice-climbers.
This vista is looking southward down the Crawford Notch with Mt. Webster at LEFT, and Mt. Willey at RIGHT.  Photo taken by bushwhacking to the edge of a gorge located about 0.3 mile SSW of Mt. Willard.
This photo is a panoramic roadside view of autumn foliage along the shoreline of Willey Pond which is located on the floor of Crawford Notch between Mt. Webster and Mt. Willey.
This photo shows autumn colors surrounding Silver Cascade, located at the top (north end) of Crawford Notch.

This autumn photo was taken at Pierce Bridge which is located a few miles north of Crawford Notch near my home in Bethlehem, NH.

TO SUM IT UP:

Perhaps this blog posting can best be summed up by two of my favorite quotes about autumn.

“Autumn is a second spring when every leaf is a flower.” ~ Albert Camus

“Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the Earth seeking the successive autumns." ~ George Eliot

I love the quotes, and your photos are amazing! It looks as though you are, indeed, experiencing a "delicious autumn" in New England!
Thanks for sharing, John!

Thanks Rita!

This blog posting was sort of a “swan song” for Autumn 2017. At the time this report was written, nearly all of the brilliant foliage had disappeared and now there are now mostly bare branches in my part of northern NH. And so, we are now in the midst of what we lovingly refer to as “stick season”. :-)
