Two Short Bushwhacks in New Hampshire's Crawford Notch

In mid January 2016, I launched two short treks from the trailhead along Rt. 302 near the Willey House Station Site (not to be confused with the Willey House Historic Site located a little farther to the north on Rt. 302).

I began with a short bushwhack to a beaver pond that is located just a short distance off the Saco River Trail near the junction with Webster Cliff Trail. My second trek was also a short bushwhack.  The location was the north bank of Avalanche Brook in the general vicinity of the Willey House Station Site.

The pink arrows on the map presented below shows the general location of these two short bushwhacks.

The photo below shows the crossing of the Saco River on the Webster Cliff Trail via the bridge built in memory of Albert and Priscilla Robertson (founding members of AMC's 4,000 Footer Club).

A view from the bridge looking northward toward Mt. Willey is seen in the next photo.

The next photo shows the vista looking northward up Crawford Notch from a beaver pond that is reached via a short bushwhack off the Saco River Trail (about a tenth of a mile NW of junction with Webster Cliff Trail).

segment of Avalanche Brook in the general vicinity of the Willey House Station site is shown in the next photo.

The next photo was taken while looking down Avalanche Brook toward Mt. Webster.
