A Visit to Some of the Waterfalls in Shelburne, NH

INTRODUCTION:

In the vicinity of Shelburne, NH there are many waterfalls, some of which are named, and some are unnamed.  In early November 2019, I visited waterfalls at three different locations in the Shelburne area as shown on the map below.

PHOTOS:

1) Waterfalls at Shelburne Basins

About 1.5 miles east from the U.S. 2/NH 16 junction in Gorham, NH there is a small roadside pull-off on the south side of U.S. 2 where you can park and then follow an unmarked (but well-maintained) trail along the east bank of Pea Brook.  This trail leads you a series of small, but pleasant waterfalls and cascades known as Shelburne Basins.

2) Waterfalls along Austin Mill Brook

Also while in the Shelburne area, I drove 1.4 miles northward on Millbrook Road from its junction with North Road, and then parked at a wide spot in the road created by recent logging.  From there, I followed an unofficial pathway to some waterfalls along Austin Mill Brook.

3) Hogan Road

A drive, walk, or bike ride along Hogan Road in Shelburne can be a rewarding experience.  I drove this road westward for 1.3 miles from its junction with North Road, and then parked where the bridge was washed out in the 30-Oct-2017 storm.

Beautiful waterfalls and great photos John!
I just returned from a trip to Blackwater Falls State Park in West Virginia. The falls there are pretty, but they don't compare with the variety of scenic falls in the Shelburne area.

I like your reference in the final photo to the "Farmer's Insurance" commercial! I also enjoy discovering venerable old trees.

Thank you for your comments, Rita.

I’ve never been to Blackwater Falls, but I am familiar with the area where they are located since I have some family connections a bit south of there. It’s certainly a scenic area, and as I understand it, Blackwater Falls is one of the most photographed sites in WV.
